Finding genuinely plastic-free footwear is harder than it sounds. Most so-called eco flip flops swap one synthetic material for another, relying on recycled plastics that still shed microfibres and persist in the environment. Waves Flip Flops was founded to offer a real alternative: footwear that contains zero plastic from the outset, not just a reduced amount.
Every pair is made from 100% FSC-certified natural rubber — a material that breaks down harmlessly in the ground rather than fragmenting into microplastics. The rubber is sourced exclusively from sustainable rubber farms in Sri Lanka, giving the brand full visibility over its supply chain. Production takes place in a SMETA-certified factory, meaning labour standards and working conditions are independently audited, not simply self-declared.
What sets Waves apart is the deliberate decision not to use recycled plastic as a shortcut. Where many footwear brands point to recycled content as a sustainability credential, Waves chose to remove plastic from the equation entirely — a more demanding manufacturing choice that also directly supports Sri Lankan rubber farming communities and their long-term livelihoods.
