Artsy Mats

Conventional fabric bath mats stay damp for hours, creating the ideal conditions for mould, bacteria, and unpleasant odours. Artsy Mats was built to solve this everyday bathroom problem by replacing synthetic or cotton mats with something fundamentally different: a solid mat made from diatomite, a material that has been absorbing moisture naturally for millions of years.

Diatomite — also known as diatomaceous earth — is a porous, sedimentary rock formed from the fossilised remains of microscopic algae called diatoms. This structure gives Artsy Mats their defining characteristic: the surface becomes touch dry within 60 seconds of use. Because the material is inherently anti-bacterial, anti-mould, and odour free, it does not require chemical treatments to achieve those properties — they are built into the material itself.

Unlike fabric mats that degrade with repeated washing, diatomite mats do not require machine washing at all. When absorption slows over time, a light sand with fine-grit sandpaper reopens the pores and restores performance — a maintenance approach that reflects how differently this product is designed to be owned and used over the long term.
